Chez nous, History was written !

The Val de Sioule has had its share of crowned heads, being the heart of the power of the Bourbons.

How not to mention the Dukes of Bourbon and in particular Charles III de Bourbon, Duke of Bourbon and Auvergne and Earl of Clermont among others.

This latter had great powers, being the last of the great French feudal lord to be able to oppose the King, and formed, with his wife Suzanne de Bourbon, the richest couple in the kindom.

After a lawsuit against the formidable Louise de Savoie having caused him to lose his land, he approached Charles V, until being appointed general lieutenant of the emperor, allegiance under which he made Francis I prisoner during the battle of Pavia in 1525.

But that’s not all, The constable of Bourbon, as he was called, was a man of mystery. Indeed, when the latter fled from Chantelle to join Charles V, legend has it that he shod his horse backwards so as not to be found.

In addition, the plot thickens, because by borrowing the underground passages of Chantelle, Charles III would had hidden there the cradle in gold of his son, the small Francis of Bourbon, which, till this day, has never been found.
